It is still not clear what the consequences of Brexit will be. A lot of people are living in uncertainty. Indeed, whether and how Brexit will be shaped remains unclear. Deal or no deal, it seems that the United Kingdom will no longer be part of the European Union from the 29th of March 2019 onward. This will lead to major consequences for logistics, importers and exporters.
How do we make sure trade will suffer as little as possible during the first period after Brexit? As ferry traffic specialist, Brexit is ‘hot topic’ for KDS Logistics. We spend many hours preparing through several courses and seminars. Partners are our highest priority at KDS Logistics. Therefore, we will make sure you will not lack any information before, during and after Brexit.
This news article discusses the steps that have to be taken as soon as possible. This is the moment, deal or no deal, logistics must be prepared. A large amount of organisations is preoccupied with all the preparations that must be made by forwarders, exporters and shippers, in order to minimise problems after Brexit.
What preparations can be made as a shipper?
It is very important to realise the changing nature of customs declarations. These will have to be done by either the shipper or the exporter. If most of your trade is intercontinental, customs declarations for import and export are familiar to you. Since the United Kingdom will no longer be part of the European Union, the same rules will apply to import, export and transit.
In some cases, customs declarations will be done in collaboration with your transporter. This applies to goods that are transported under transit. For example, goods with NCTS or a TIR-carnet. This will be carried out by a customs agent.
Is intercontinental transport completely new to you? Do not forget to request an EORI-number. Every importing and/or exporting company is required to possess an EORI-number for identification. This also applies to companies that are making use of a fixed forwarder.
What about preparations for ferry traffic?
Customs documents will have to be arranged in advance. These will precede the cargo so to speak. More than ever, the supply chain will have to run smoothly. Only trucks with the proper documents will be admitted by the ferry operators. This applies to import as well. Your goods can only be collected if the import documents are pre-registered.
Which steps can already be taken?
